🔜 The fort about which I am telling you today is also known as Lohagarh Fort. Lohagarh fort in Bharatpur district of Rajasthan is considered to be the only invincible fort of the country. It is said that the earthen fort was attacked 13 times by the British with their cannons but they could not conquer it. Rajasthan is called the king of the deserts. There are many places that attract tourists and one of them is Lohagarh Fort.
🔜 Maharaj Surajmal was born on February 13, 1707. This was the same day in history on which, Aurangzeb, the most cruel, bigoted, butcher and devil ruler of Hindustan, died. The name of Maharaja Surajmal is held in the highest esteem among the kings of North India who have taken the lead in responding to Muslim aggression.
🔜 Colonel James Todd called this battlefield Rajputana even before he read the name Rajasthan. Many Rajput kings and maharajas (emperors) were born in this Rajasthan. At a time when the Rajput kings and maharajas were protecting their property by forming relations with the Muslims, this Bahubali was fighting against the Muslims alone. Discussions of Maharaja Surajmal's tactics and diplomatic moves were all around.
🔜 The Jat ruler Maharaja Surajmal had established the kingdom of Bharatpur. Maharaj Surajmal had constructed this impregnable fort in the early of the 18th century. He envisioned a fort that would be very strong and ready for very little money. Cannons and ammunition were in high demand at that time. So a special trick was used in the construction of this fort so that the ammunition filled sphere would not have any effect on that wall. This fort is not as huge as other forts of Rajasthan but nevertheless this fort is considered invincible. One of the features of this fort is that it has a large mud wall on all the four sides. Thousands of feet carinal clay wall has been built around the fort so that it is not affected by artillery shells and it has been filled with water by making a deep and wide valley below.
🔜 Thus, crossing this water and climbing on a flat wall is not difficult but impossible. That is why it was not easy to attack on the fort because the bullets coming out of the cannons would sink into the wall made of mud and its fire would calm down. Despite being attacked by numerous such giants, the stone wall of the fort remained their as well as their safety. That is why the enemies could not enter inside this fort. According to the English writer James Todd, who wrote the history of Rajasthan, the clay wall of this fort is made of with such a material that it is nearly impossible to win this fort. This iron fort is called the East Singhadwar of Rajasthan. The Jat kings, who were known for their persistence, were ruling this region and they made all the precautions & required efforts to protect this fort.
🔜 On the other hand the British attacked this fort 13 times to bring this fort under their empire. British army fired one by one shells at the fort by their cannons, but these shells were absorbed in the belly of the fort wall. Not once in 13 attacks did the British army penetrate the fort. It is said that the British army was frustrated by the repeated defeats and fled from there. There is also a famous saying that not a single Englishman could stand in front of the bravery of the Jat kings of Bharatpur.
🔜 The gates of this fort also have a distinctive feature. The gates made of alloy of eight different metals, which Muslim ruler Allauddin Khilji had snatched from Chittorgarh and took to Delhi, were brought back by Maharaja of Bharatpur - Jawahar Singh, he literally uprooted them from its place in Delhi and fitted into this fort. An interesting thing about the fort is that not a single piece of iron has been used anywhere in this fort. This fort is prevalent as Lohagarh fort by the name due to its uniqueness. This fort from time to time gritted the teeth of the enemies and forced the enemies to believe that it was a fort made of iron. At one corner of the fort is the Jawahar Burj, erected to commemorate the Jat Maharaja's attack on Delhi and his victory over it. There is another Fateh Burj (Victory Tower) on next corner; which was built in the memory of extraordinary victory against British Army in 1805.
🔜 Fighting against the British army, Maharaja Jaswantrao of Holkar fled and came to Bharatpur. Jat king Ranjit Singh promised him that he would sacrifice everything to save him. Lord Lake, the Commander-in-Chief of the British Army, informed the Jat King Ranjit Singh of Bharatpur that he would either hand over Jaswantrao to the British or he would hand himself over to death.
🔜 The Jat kingss have been famous for their pledge, inurement and demeanour. This threat was completely contrary to the nature of the Jat king and the blood of Raja Ranjit Singh boiled. He sent a message to Lord Lake that he should try his best and he inadvertently gave the message that he knows how to fight. Lord Lake felt very bad about this and gathered a large army and attacked Bharatpur. Proceeding ahead without fear, Bharatpur's army was also becoming less. The British army was throwing shells from the cannons but those shells were sinking into the soil of the fort of Bharatpur. Even after the onslaught of artillery shelling, when Bharatpur remained as it was, the British army was taken a back and Lord Lake was also shocked to see the amazing potential of this fort. The message of peace was repeated and Maharaja Ranjit Singh once again challenged the British army. The British army was constantly throwing ammunition at the fort of Bharatpur and they were constantly attacking.
🔜 But, hail to that fort of Bharatpur and its force that remained steadfast against that onslaught and was laughing as if mocking the enemy's force. Historians believe that the British army led by Lord Lake, attacked 13 times, but as Pakistan faced defeat on all of their 5 invasions without any provocation; the British army also lost on their each attack and they had to retreat every time. There are 8 parts to protect this fort of Bharatpur and also several towers. The important places in this fort are Kishori Mahal, Mahal Khas, Moti Mahal and Kothi Khas.
🔜 There are many famous temples. Among them Ganga temple, Laxman temple as well as Bihariji temple are very popular. There is a big mosque in the middle of the city. The temple and mosque are made entirely of red stones.
🔜 There is a peculiar legend about this temple and mosque too and it is said that in the state of Bharatpur, when the Maharaja hired a person for the job, there was a condition with that person that a small portion of his monthly remuneration would go to the account of his religion. Each employee (servant) accepted the condition. The king would take money from each person (servant) which he kept on the job (work) and this money was credited to the religion account of that person. The money of the Hindu employees was deposited in the religion account of the Hindus and the money of the Muslims was deposited in the religion account of the Muslims. The money collected from this rupee was used for temple-mosque works. Laxman Mandir (temple) and Ganga Mandir were built with the money of Hindus while a huge mosque was built in the center of the city with the money of Muslims. It is known as Jama Masjid.
